FreeBSD Query....

Hello chix,

My trust that you are all well. I have a problem in installing FreeBSD on a Mecer Computer. I have tried everything with no success. The thing is when i install and enable GNOME on rc.conf file, after restarting it tales me back to the root login after a few seconds. It never takes me to the GUI window :( Anybody knows what the problem might be?

  1. Hello Phoebe,

Did you follow the documentation we used at the workshop?
Most importantly check that you installed xorg. Some of the packages in Xorg are needed when running Gnome. Check that you have it installed plus gnome, and then check again.

Run sysinstall, go to packages, and install xorg.

Let me know if it helps.

  4. Hey Pheobe, then I think there might be issues with your graphics card working with FreeBSD on that particular laptop. In regards to configuring FreebSD to get an automatic IP address, when you are configuring the network devices, it asks if you want to assign an automatic IP or if you want to assign a static one.

That option is there as the setup goes on.
